Hey, guys. I don't know about you, but this quarantine has me all mixed up. I'm a teacher, so I'm teaching from home. But, even with that, I constantly get my days mixed up and completely lose track of time. It's crazy. I also have been having issues with just wanting to sleep when I'm not working, or just wanting to be lazy. I'm writing this post to help others like me out. I'm going to be sharing my top five tips-in no particular order-that I've been personally using (as often as I can) to help keep up my routine and energy levels.
1. Wake Up Early!
This means waking up an hour before you’re scheduled to work (if working from home), or just at a reasonable time (between 7-9 ideally). Doing this gives your body time to wake up before starting work or whatever you’re doing to keep busy. Even if you have nothing to do in the morning, this will just help keep your body on a regular sleep schedule, which is extremely important.
2. Eat Healthy!
My biggest issue towards the beginning of quarantine was eating junk food! I’d get bored, see some unhealthy snack in the kitchen and just be drawn to that. I ate so much junk food. About a week or so ago, it occurred to me how awful that was. All that junk totally decreased my energy and increased my weight. Now, I’m not saying you have to buy all organic, but find some creative ways to eat healthy and with substance. Some of my favorite things to snack on are celery with peanut butter, pretty much any kind of fruits or vegetables, peanuts or cashews, and sugar snap peas. Yum!
3. Do Yoga!
I’ve been meaning to try out yoga for forever now. I’ve always had an excuse. With this quarantine, I now have zero excuses. Plus, I’ve fallen in love with it! I subscribed to Gaia, which is basically Netflix for yoga. It’s completely fantastic! I will put a link to their website below this post. Otherwise, YouTube is pretty great for finding yoga videos as well. The fantastic thing about yoga and/or meditation is the amount of peace and relaxation it brings you. Not to mention the awesome fitness benefits you can gain from it. I do between 15-20 minutes of yoga when I wake up in the mornings and occasionally, I’ll do another 15 minute session after I clock out of work at 3:00. It’s definitely a great way to destress and relax while becoming more in tune with yourself.
4. Try One New Thing Per Day!
I understand this can be a difficult thing right now, so if you can’t do it every day, at least try for once a week. The new thing you try can be anything. It can be a new snack, a new something to watch, a new yoga pose, a new morning/night routine, a new book or even a new videogame to play. It doesn’t have to be anything huge, just small and new enough to mix things up a bit!
5. Call A Friend Or Family Member!
This last one is great! It helps you keep touch with reality and with your friends or family. You can call just to say hi or you can talk to them for an hour. Instead of just calling, you can video call them as well. I’ve played board games over Zoom and Skype with people, so that’s a possibility too! We have a Dungeons and Dragons group every Wednesday and we’re still able to do that over Skype. It’s nice to still be able to do some of our normal things, even if we do them in an unusual type of way.
I hope this list has sparked some ideas for you! I know this quarantine can get pretty exhausting. I know it has for me. If you need anything at all, don't be afraid/ashamed/nervous to reach out to me, or anyone! Let's get through this together!
Love, Aylin
